“When we get into bed in the evening, [we should feel] we have provided something of value to the world, to those around us.”
Søren Porskrog
Søren offers three key things that help him and his clients:
1. Psychological Flow at Work
Flow, a term introduced in the realm of positive psychology by psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi in 1970, is often described as being “in the zone.” It’s a mental state achieved when an individual is fully engaged in an activity, experiencing a deep sense of focus and enjoyment. This state is marked by a profound immersion in the task at hand, where one’s skills are optimally challenged, leading to a harmonious blend of action and awareness. In this state, individuals often lose track of time due to their complete absorption in the activity.
Søren explains the concept of “flow”, especially in a work related context, and how it can be beneficial to think about how working approaches – high level of abstraction referred to as “waterfall project management” (sequential, long term time periods) and “agile” (iterative and incremental, shorter term time periods) – can be synergistic in terms of inducing flow – or not – so work can potentially in itself be a cause of enjoyment and happiness.
Characterized by an energized focus, flow is not just about engagement; it’s about finding the sweet spot where our abilities perfectly align with the challenge before us. It necessitates intense concentration and is used as a technique to manage stress and anxiety, especially through leisure activities that fit one’s skills – while it can also be used in places of work.
2. Enhancing Consulting Capacity and Capability by using Chat GPT
Søren talks about how he uses Chat GPT as a tool to assist him in extending his capacity and capability in his work as a consultant.
Chat GPT is an advanced language model developed by OpenAI. It’s part of the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) family of models, known for their ability to generate human-like text.
3. Creating Habits of Gratitude and Contribution
Søren shares what he refers to as his tiny (daily) habits of being grateful and reflecting on what he has brought to the world by investing a few minutes on this in the morning and in the evening every day.
